About my self and why I am intrested in the programme

I am a motivated person and can communicate well. Creativity and Textiles has been with me from a very early age. I have been bought up with a Textile environment which has been involved in visiting fashion shows such as the Clothes Show Live in Birmingham and the Asian Fashion Shows; I also visited a few art galleries and have recently gone and visited the Saddle worth Art gallery. I have also been involved in the family clothing business in which I have become more familiar with different fabrics and techniques, knowing this has made be a more ambitious person I always try hard to solve a problem if nothing works out I keep the outcome that has not worked out for me and keep trying till I am satisfied with the outcome, Textiles has grown up with me and has a huge impact on me and what I want to do with my future the more I have understood Textiles the more I have been committed to learn more and to get as much education as I can in this area. I am fascinated with all the trends that come and go and personally I am a trend follower. All my designs and productions which I am currently working on are linked with the current trends and briefs. In my spare time I like creating and making other productions apart from project work. I like spending time with family and friends and reading magazines such as ELLE, Asian Women and Vogue.

I am interested in this course because I believe studying at University level will benefit my future career. I look forward to the opportunity of University to broaden my chances of getting a good education which can lead to a good job and build upon the skills I have and strengthen them as to the best of my ability and confidence. The main reason as to why I would like to study in Manchester is because it is close to home and Manchester has a good reputation. I have attended three open days and like the course description and the working environment.

(A) Level- Unit 1 - Summer and Pattern - Final Piece

These are my final pieces for my current project that I am working on. Before doing the techniques straight on to the garment and cushion, to avoid any errors, I tried the techniques out on scarps of material. I did this so I could see how the outcome would be.

(A) Level- Unit 1 - Summer and Pattern - Design Ideas Stage

(Initial Ideas)
(Refined Ideas)

Above are three photographs to show the Initial design stages with samples and annotaions and labelled clearly as what fabrics and what colours and techniques have been used. I have done samples using a variety of scales,to experiment with accessories and colours of fabrics and the different textures of fabrics. I have done all my 8 Initial designs in the same way with the same quantaties above as shown in the photograph. All my Refined Ideas areto a large scale as the 3rd photograpgh shows.

(A) Level- Unit 1 - Summer and Pattern- Porfolio work!

Above are two photographs of some research I have gathered for the current project I am working on. The research involved collecting images from Magazines, Internet, Books, Newspapers and Photographs. I combined the research and the primary drawings which were taken from photographs I have took. I have kept my research colour coordinated, along with the research I have produced samples to show how everything is related with annotations.

(A) Level- Unit 1 - Summer and Pattern

This is a photograph of one of the moodboards out of five this is the current project that I am
working on, in this moodboard I have collected images from Magazines and the Internet and have stitched them together in colour coordination and have added accessories such as bangles, beads, sequins, gems, iron-on transfers and laces to gather most items that I would in some idea use them in my finial piece and throught out my design stages. In my personal study I looked at various artists such as Junya Watanabe, Gillen Allan, Ash Kumar, I ssey Miyake. I did loads of experiments and have kept all my artists research and technique experiments in one seperate sketch book. I knew at this point that I wanted to combine all the artists which I looked at and bring them together to create a producation that will fit in well with the theme I have choose.

Unit 2 (As) - Recycling Project 2- Images

Above are three photographs to show the detail of the corset and skirt from the front view the back view and the side view. I got the top and skirt modelled because I wanted to show that it was made to the size 8-10 and is wearable.

Unit 2 (As) - Recycling Project

This Corset and skirt was made in AS first year of college in the second unit- Recycling Project. In this Exam Unit, I looked at artists who use recycable material to create producations. I got the ideads of one artist Susan Stokwell who uses the world Maps to create exaggerated dresses I like the way paper had been used instead of material such as fabrics such as Cotton etc. I liked the usage of all materials such as card, paper, bottles, bottle tops, crisp packets. I explored alot in my Recycle Project porfolio and came up with a final piece such as coming up with the Newspaper skirt which I have lined underneth with white Cotton so the newspaper is properly covering the legs. The corset type was done by a recycled bra and white Cotton to make the corset. I put coffee and tea mixed on to the fabric stain so it fits in with the theme of Recycle and have stitched the bra and the fabric to gether to make it one whole.

Unit 1 (As)- Texture and Pattern- Final Piece

This scarf was made in the first year of college AS level the first Unit was about Texture and Pattern. I looked at a series of Artists Junya Watanabe, Issey Miyake, Deepa Panchima, Gemma Nicolson and Gillian Allen. Looking at all the artists and the techniques they use. I liked the idea of combining Junya Watanabes shibori ideas of trapping marbles and pound coins into fabric to create the flower effects which came in to a big role in my final piece, and was based mainly on shibori. The Issey Miyake shibori which was tying elastic on a rod which created a wavy and
textured ripples which formed leaves to go with the flowers. I also used the way Gillen Allen uses her accessories such as Beads, Sequins, Gems and Laces to make her work eye catching which on my work created more texture and added to the design.
